In the Ladies Lounge – Foufu, Melbourne, 12mins, Mini DV
In a Beirut lounge room in 1926, a photograph was taken of two Lebanese lesbians in drag. Now, this photograph hangs in a Sydney lounge room of two Lebanese lesbians. Some things have changed, some things haven’t.

Puszta Cowboy – The Budapest Lesbian Film Collective, Written & directed by Katrin Kremmler, Hungary, 9mins 46sec, 2004, BETA NTSC/DVD
Hungarian with English subtitles. The cowboy’s girlfriend has been kidnapped by an evil Lesbian bandit. Is he man enough to save her? The first Hungarian Lesbian – Transgender – Paprikawestern (parody), complete with horse, gunfight, goulash, and traditional Hungarian csárdás-dancing.

A.R.M.E. – noha, scary d & kaka, Netherlands, 3mins, 200
a reconnecting male experience video sketch

3 Short Films By Wife And Aunties, 2004:
Fuck Me Hard – Performed by Wife, shot and edited by Foufu, 2 mins
Aunty in the Afternoon – Performed by Daro, Directed, edited and spoken by Foufu, Shot by Wife, 1.45sec
Terminology – Performed by Rihab, Directed, shot and edited by Foufu, 2.30sec

These 3 films were made at different times. Some times we like to be fucked. Some times we remember our aunties and the recipes they gave us. Some times we need to stand by our sisters and brothers in the Arab world. We are always Arab women, wherever we are, whatever we are doing.

Seamstress – Performed by Wife, Shot and edited by Foufu, 3mins, 2006, Mini DV
This piece was made by Wife and Foufu for the SLIT magazine ‘TOOLS’ exhibition in Sydney 2006. Synopsis: Sometimes we have to rip stuff up to feel better.

Jean & Jane – Janine Sack in co-operation with Henner Winckler, Hamburg, 3 min 30 sec,16 mm, 1997
A woman and a man get ready to go out. As they perform the various activities of dressing, shaving or putting on make-up they become more and more images of gender stereotypes. Link to Janine’s website.

Darling Nikki – Barabara Naegelin (with thanks to Prince), Switzerland, 2 mins, VHS, 2001

A home video with a minimal setting: a chair, changing androgynous clothes, and a cd-player. Imitating a music star and singing along to the pop song playing on the cd-player. A very intimate performance slightly accelerated and self-ironic. This video was made for an exhibition themed “Eros”.

A fásli a zokni és a szőr (Bandage, socks and facial hair) – Dudás Dorottya (DeDe), Muszter, Horváth Nóra (Noar), Takács Mária (Mari), Hungary, 35mins, 2006 (English subtitles)
It’s the end of the Jedi age, the Empire rules the Galaxy with an iron fist. The spirit of revolt is not dead yet though. The most daring get bandage, socks and facial hair. A group of female revolutionaries depolarize the male-female order of the Galaxy for a day. They strike back as dragkings.

Bonus features plucked from the bildwechsel archives in hamburg and other international picks.

Arches LIVE! – Call For Proposals

For two weeks in September, the Arches will become a hub of creative activity, with every possible space filled with innovative, experimental new productions from all performance disciplines.

Arches LIVE! offers young companies a supportive platform for risk-taking and allows the building to become a meeting point, area for experimentation and site of debate.

Following the success of last year we are expanding our programme and want you to get involved.

The Arches invites companies and individual artists to submit proposals for performances to be considered for the 2006 festival. Arches LIVE! celebrates the multi-disciplinary nature of our organisation, there> '> s no rules really, as long as its new work, anything goes!

Please send a detailed proposal, including the following information: nature of piece, names of artists and creators, stage requirements, get-in, fit-up, running times, lighting and sound requirements, cv's of all those involved.

Any images or dvd clips of previous work can also be sent.

Please send hard copies only by post to until 1st May.

Submissions should be sent to: Jackie Wylie, Arts Programmer, The Arches, 253 Argyle Street, Glasgow G2 8DL
